I change my bedding about as often as I change my shoes. There is just something about getting a new duvet or quilt or comforter that really changes the look of a bedroom. I used to use a lightweight down comforter but then I required a 40 pound heater, otherwise known as my dog. She insists on sleeping right up against me all night so I've now had to get a lighter weight comforter AND even more recently, a quilt. Because really, who wants to sweat while they sleep?
Turns out, those comforters take up a.lot.of.room. when not in use. I hate to waste an entire storage container just for one of them, so I started looking for solutions. Insert....Space Bags! Yes, it's true, I fell prey to something that is in an infomercial. But hey, if I investigate it and it works, I can later make clients happy. I marched myself down to Bed, Bath and Beyond and picked up a couple of boxes. For $29.99, I was able to get 2 extra large bags and 2 jumbo bags. Here are the results:
It is extremely easy to use. I sort of panicked at the lack of directions but forged on anyhow. I placed the first comforter in the bag and triple folded it. That didn't work so well so I took it back out and doubled it. The result was a much flatter comforter. However, If you have a lower bed, I'm not sure if you would able to fit it underneath it. I finally figured out that if you flatten the bags with your hand while you have the vacuum hose attached, the bags will end up flatter. My down comforter worked the best with the Space Bag. It was nice and neat and very flat...and currently residing underneath my bed.
I took a look at the bags today and I'm a little worried that they got some air in them overnight...I will report back next week to see if this was a total fail. Also, the plastic zipper tab kept popping off, which was annoying but easily fixed.
All in all, I am hopeful this is a good solution to those of us that don't have massive linen closets to store bedding!
