Up This Week: Donations
Last week at the monthly NAPO Los Angeles chapter meeting, we Professional Organizers talked about ways to be greener. A lot of our job revolves around getting rid of items our client no longer has a use for. Obviously we don't want to fill up the trash dumpster and call it a day. There are lots of resources out there for donations...Goodwill, Salvation Army and Vietnam Veterans of America just to name a few. But there are also a lot of smaller charities out there that may specialize in particular areas. This week I'm going highlight some of those charities!
For shoes, it is hard to go wrong with Soles 4 Souls. They accept new and gently worn shoes which they then take to areas that have been devastated by some sort of disaster (think the SE Asian Tsunami, Hurricane Katrina and Haiti). The best part? They have local drop-offs, including a lot of New Balance stores. You can check out the website for local drop-offs near you. If there is none in your location, you can mail them your shoes. The cost of the shipment IS tax deductible!
Remember, life is easier when it's organized!
